About Inherited Dynamics
Inherited Dynamics is an iPhone app that helps you understand the family patterns you inherited: how the family you grew up in shaped your personality, your relationships and the way you handle stress. It teaches Bowen Family Systems Theory through short lessons, quizzes, self-assessments and guided conversations with your family.
Our approach
Family Systems Theory, developed by psychiatrist Murray Bowen, looks at the family as one emotional system in which everyone affects everyone else. Patterns like emotional fusion, triangles, emotional cutoff and birth-order roles pass from one generation to the next, mostly without anyone choosing them.
How we create content
Our lessons, tests and articles are written by the Inherited Dynamics team from primary Bowen theory sources and translated into everyday language. Our free tests are self-reflection tools. We explain on each test how it is scored and where its questions come from.
Our content is educational. It is not therapy, a diagnosis or medical advice.
